Communications Specialist

Reporting to the PR and Comms Lead the role-holder will play a key role developing and delivering internal and external communications content to support projects and initiatives across the business. To provide flexibility and support in delivery of the Communications Team’s objectives and strategy, taking the lead on specific elements. The ability to own and shape initiatives or elements will be key, for example, but not limited to: Social Media, CSR, Customer Experience, Digital etc. Overall the role will pro-actively enhance and build on the brand and reputation of the company and playing a key role in delivering excellent customer experience. On occasions, the role will need to deputise for the Communications and PR Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing and implementation of the communications and PR strategy. Studying the organisation’s objectives and needs to build public relations that meet the needs of the internal and external stakeholders of the organisation 
  •  Communicating with colleagues and leadership team to co-ordinate internal communications of GEL company-wide projects.
  •  Lead delivery and design of monthly ‘Connect’ and quarterly business briefings.
  • Writing and editing in-house newsletters, case studies, presentations, articles and annual reports
  • Supporting the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation
  • Co-ordinate GEL’s corporate social responsibility activities and align efforts to maximise value to the organisation.
  • Provide support for media & stakeholder queries
  • Actively support Communications and PR Lead to ensure communications strategy is in alignment with GEL initiatives such as Tariffs, Brand and Customer Experience
  • Enhance and advise on the improvement of internal communications within the organisation, embracing new channels of communication and ensuring that the internal and external messages are aligned.
  • Ensure communications messaging is consistent across all channels and provide support outside of office hours (the business is operational 24/7) where necessary.
  • Lead on delivering engaging social media and digital channels.
  • Preparing and supervising the production of brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes
  • Work within allocated budgets.
  • Be able to work under pressure, occasionally with limited supervision, whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • Deputise for the Communications and PR Lead in their absence
  • Key administrative tasks will need to be delivered to standard. 
  • Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
  • Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a business, communications, marketing or similar subject would be desirable
  • 2-5 years post degree experience in social media, communications, marketing or journalist role would be desirable
  • Interest in Social Media
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skill
  • Adobe design skills
  • Creative Flair with attention to detail
