Temporary Business Applications Specialist

The Business Applications Specialist will provide functional support to the UBS project in various areas including interface design and build, data migration and XML support and development. This function provides the bridge between IT,  the business and the UBS Project team in delivering cost effective, impactful and integrated business & information solutions. The role requires the ability to develop and analyse detailed business and technical specification proposals and develop solutions to meet the requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1.     Business Analysis & Design
The Business Application Specialist’s primary responsibility is to combine their knowledge of the business, its processes and procedures together with current technologies to drive solutions that ensure maximum return on investment for technology initiatives with a particular emphasis on the UBS Project deliverables:

  • Analyses business requirements. 
  • Translates business requirements into technical designs. 
  • Determines operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats. 
  • Designs and builds new business solutions by analysing requirements; constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications. 
  • Continuously seeks to improve systems and processes by studying current practices and designing modifications
2.     Delivery Management

Responsibilities include delivery of change initiatives and development project cycle and activities associated with UBS Project, while ensuring that standards for development, data and process are maintained in line with company policies and guidelines:
  • Involved with full lifecycle applications development activities.
  • Works with suppliers and contractors in delivery of improved/changed application configuration, development or integration work.
  • Responsible for key stage testing activities and ensures changes/developments are signed off and accepted by business.
  • Responsible for the escalation process to ensure delivery of changes/developments maintain quality standards and are delivered to cost and timeline expectations. 
3.     Configuration Management
A key role of the Business Application Specialist is to maintain the integrity of the company’s application landscape and configuration blueprint to ensure applications, integrations, data, reporting and BI tools adhere to standard technologies and processes, reducing the complexity and cost of maintaining the currency of GEL’s IT applications footprint:
  • Assist configurators through designing, configuration, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting change initiatives. 
  • Recommends controls by identifying problems; writing improved procedures.
  • Responsible for relevant Change Control Process by ensuring change activities are compliant with all relevant policies & procedures and that changes align with IT governance and strategy.
  • Supports, maintains and documents software functionality and manages changes to application configuration documentation where relevant
4.     Applications Support
The Business Application Specialist will use their business functional expertise and application knowledge to maintain the integrity of GEL’s applications design. To educate business users on correct usage of systems in particular respect to the UBS Project and assist in identifying and implementing a solution plan to correct any issues that arise:

  • Provides support as necessary to fix issues in a timely manner. 
  • Performs tuning, improvement and usability as a result of trouble tickets or defects reported.
  • Performs root cause analysis to provide or recommend permanent fixes for recurring problems.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • A degree level qualification and/or relevant professional qualifications are preferable
  •  Has proven project and man management skills
  • Has good oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Application Development Methods and Techniques including secure coding
  • Proficient in Application Development Tools/Languages including XML
  • Proficient in Corporate, Industry and Professional Standards

  • Proficient with Database Software including MS SQL
  • Proficient with Integration Tools
  • Microsoft Dynamics, O365 and Azure technologies
